Emerge Global

The Emerge program has four components to empower teenage survivors of abuse in Sri Lanka: (1) Beads-to-Business curriculum - an art therapy and economic empowerment curriculum that teaches girls to set up and operate their own small businesses, while generating savings for their futures; (2) Life Skills curriculum - covers reproductive health, financial management, crisis management, and more; (3) Mentorship - pairs participants with local female mentors and helps them develop essential communication skills, develop their confidence, and plan for life outside the shelter; and (4) Reintegration - supports participants as they make their way from shelter back out into communities. The four program aspects work together to support survivors of sexual violence in a holistic manner that equips them to lead healthy, self-sufficient adult lives. Emerge Global has begun to shift away from administering all aspects of the program and instead is empowering a local charitable organization in Sri Lanka to run the program so that it can last long term in a sustainable manner.
