Description
Emerge Ministries International developed the Egress Youth Diversion Program in response to JJAC's advocacy for prevention of delinquency, alternatives to secure detention, improvement of the juvenile justice system, and gender-specific interventions. The organization provides prevention services for students who require intervention to prevent further development towards the Juvenile Justice system. EMI works towards achieving this goal without involving the juvenile court process.

Program areas at Emerge Ministries International

Prevention services are for students whose behaviors are not serious enough to warrant adjudication through the juvenile court process but which do indicate a need for intervention to prevent further development toward Juvenile Justice system ? EMI will work with local school systems to bring its Egress Youth Diversion Program to students who have been suspended from school in an effort to reduce suspension time. This allows the student to return to the classroom sooner while learning vital life social and coping skills to reduce future suspensions. ? Egress Youth Diversion is the only agency in Bernalillo County that will provide specialized services to the underserved minorities as indicated by disproportionate levels of juvenile justice and child welfare involvement and family poverty of non- immigrant African American Black girls and boys. Our program is not only designed to serve them but their entire families. ? We are also committed to partner with our community partners to also provide these same services to several other groups of underserved minorities namely poor White Youth undocumented Mexicans Youth and Lgbtq+ poor minority Youth. Egress will make available these same services through our community partners as we seek to meet the needs of the underserved youth of our Community. EMI's Egress Youth Diversion seeks to increase its influence capacity and long-term sustainability of our non-profit community organization. As a catalyst for reducing poverty in our described communities. Egress youth diversion is an AmeriCorps Project 2021-2022 next year 2022-2023 we are requesting seven VISTA's to support our service development. We have also received a CNCS grant.
