Program areas at Empowerment Zone
Tenant Organizing Assist tenants residing in the same low income, multi-dwelling to join forces in advocating for themselves, particularly in dealings with the landlord or management and to address the quality of life issues that impact their housing and community.
Senior Program Provides an opportunity for seniors (ages 55 and up) to participate in educational, and health related workshops, learn basic computer skills, socialize with other seniors from their community, in a safe space.
Park Hill Volunteer Tenant Patrol Help tenants organize and maintain a volunteer tenant lobby watch in their low, income multi-dwelling.
Black Heritage Family Day Coordinate and organize all activities related to "Heritage Day" inclusive of a parade and festival in celebration and honor of Staten Island's residents of African descent. Heritage Day is an annual event held on the 3rd Saturday in the month of September.
Bridging the Digital Divide Afterschool Program Provides access to computers, highspeed broadband internet and a safe space for 50 at-risk youth, during out of school hours. In addition to access to technology the youth receive homework help and additional tutoring, while acquiring basic computer skills. The program decreases the deficit that poor/economically disadvantaged youth have due to the inaccessibility of computers, and broadband highspeed internet in their homes and schools.
Basic Computer Skills Participants learn the basics on how to operate a computer, use the mouse, keyboard, get on the internet, and use emails to stay in touch with family and friends.
Empower Girls SI Girls ages 11 to 16 explore and learn life skills, health, career exploration/job preparation, financial literacy and civic engagement; that improves their self-esteem, quality of life, social engagement and future income earning potential.
