Program areas at Engineers for a Sustainable World
Held Annual Conference, with primary attendance from engineering undergraduates along with graduate students and young professionals. The 3 day event attracted 300 people and featured workshops and panels on sustainability & engineering topics, networking sessions, opportunities to exchange project ideas and best practices for campus and community projects, and a service activity in the local community. The event was held at the Georgia Institute of Technology, in partnership with the local student affiliates there. 20% of paid staff time was allocated to this program, and grants enabled students from new or more resource-limited chapters to attend.
Our CommUnity program engages teams of university students worldwide to collaborate with local communities to design and develop high impact, long lasting projects to tackle complex sustainability and resilience challenges. In doing so, these collaborations and innovative technical solutions can bring socioeconomic, self-sufficient, and resilient changes to local communities and improve students' technical and communications skills. For this tax year, teams at 9 schools from 3 countries participated, and funding was provided to the winning team to travel to the Annual Conference. 10% of paid staff time was allocated to this program.
We supported a growing network of 50 affiliated (but legally separate) chapters, supporting their efforts to design and implement sustainability-oriented projects on campuses, in communities, and abroad. Volunteer staff members had one on one calls with chapter leaders, hosted group calls on leadership approaches and project ideas, and provided other support. 10% of paid staff time was allocated to running and fundraising for this program.
