Program areas at ECOSS
Clean water: Ecoss' clean water programming addresses stormwater pollution in the puget sound region alongside business owners, homeowners and communities, with intentional emphasis on working with immigrants, refugees and people of color. The majority of this work centers around green stormwater infrastructure (gsi). Ecoss provides culturally relevant, multilingual education on gsi; supports people in obtaining gsi; and recruits and helps train multicultural contractors to install gsi.
Solid waste management: Ecoss works with immigrant and refugee owned/staffed businesses, multicultural restaurants and multifamily residences to address solid waste management and promote waste reduction. We provide materials and services in multiple languages to build recycling and composting capacity via technical assistance and multicultural outreach.
Clean energy: Ecoss works with immigrants, refugees and other communities of color to conduct outreach, provide education and build community capacity around clean energy solutions, with a focus on transportation electrification, building electrification and other decarbonization and just transition efforts throughout the greater Seattle area.
Environmental stewardship: Ecoss works with immigrant, refugee and other communities of color to provide education and experiences that promote people to be outdoors leaders and stewards of their environment. This includes assessing community needs and ambitions, providing in-language, culturally relevant resources, and leading activities around outdoor recreation, habitat restoration, urban forestry, and Environmental health.general coordination activities such as program staff meetings and general tasks that affect all programming are also included in this expense category.
