Program areas at Epilepsy Foundation of Colorado
Patient services - in 2023 we provided a variety of programs and services to people living with Epilepsy and their families, including support groups throughout the region, a toll-free information and referral line, toolkits for newly diagnosed patients, and direct financial assistance to individuals and families in crisis. We distributed 700 "newly diagnosed" information kits, engaged hundreds of attendees in educational programs on epilepsy-related topics, held virtual and in-person camps for kids, teens, young adults, and families with Epilepsy, offered specialized mental health services, and passed legislation in Colorado that streamlines the step therapy exemption process in medicaid.
Public health - in 2023, we trained over 3900 individuals in seizure first aid, including families impacted by Epilepsy, employers, first responders, school nurses, school personnel, and the general public. We engaged in ongoing efforts to protect the rights of people with Epilepsy and promote public policies that benefit people with chronic illness such as access to medication and specialty healthcare services, patient safety and mental health. Our public policy agenda is promoted through grassroots efforts and regular communication with policy makers.
Professional education - in 2023 we provided education and seizure first aid training to the medical community and healthcare providers, including, but not limited to, first responders, school nurses and school personnel, and neurology offices. We also offered an accredited continuing medical education conference for healthcare professionals focused on Epilepsy- specific topics.
