Mobility Opportunities Fund (MOF) accomplished the purchasing of 111 conventional bicycles, 85 electric bicycles, 57 electric cargo bicycles, 4 electric vehicles and 156 safety equipment sets were awarded to community members of the North Lawndale neighborhood. Additionally, participants reported increased transportation access and independence, improved health and wellness, and increased economic opportunities. The program received positive press coverage and citywide and national awareness. The program was mentioned by speakers at the Transport Chicago conference held this year.
Equiticity accomplished the launch of our inaugural Bike Force Cohort in partnership with After School Matters wherein local youth were trained in e-bike technologies, e-scooter repair, received post-secondary guidance from workers in the field, and explored new parts of their city. Students were paid a stipend and gave an end-of-session presentation to showcase their learning and insights.
Equiticity's Community Mobility Rituals (CMRs) accomplished an expansion of modes to include scooter rolls, public transit excursions, and cyclovia-style street festivals in addition to our community bike rides and walks. Another accomplishment was hosting a Friday night ride with community partners in North Lawndale in which over 25 youth were engaged to keep the ride safe through leadership and bike handling training (paid). Equiticity engaged a community council to co-plan and activate the CMRs at the local level.
