Program areas at Erase Racism
Housing: the inclusive housing program reveals forms of housing discrimination and uses policy advocacy, community organizing, and legal action to ensure that long islanders, regardless of their race, will have access to the neighborhood of their choice.
Racism research: to build a stronger and more just long island, Erase Racism conducts research on racial inequality in education and housing, with a strong focus on how such racial inequality manifests in new york state and long island. Specifically, we emphasize the ways that racial segregation in education might affect long island students and teachers of color and the ways that racial segregation in housing might affect long island residents of color. We utilize a variety of state and federal data sources as well as a variety of data analysis platforms to accomplish this goal, such as data from new york state education department, national center for education statistics, and census bureau's american community survey.
Partner: Erase Racism educates and mobilizes long islanders to support policies and practices that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in our area. We do this via interactive forums, workshops, and trainings; use of social, alternative, and mainstream media; and uplifting stories of those impacted by Racism.
