Program areas at EW!DC
The organization uses books and reading to help children thrive in the classroom, their communities, and in life. The organization offers 3 programs that support literacy development, promote social-emotional growth, and foster a love of reading and learning. Power readers, a one-on-one mentoring program, connects students and volunteers to read together for one hour a week during the school year. Storytime follows a read-aloud format to model positive literacy behaviors for students while also showing them how books can have a positive impact on their personal and professional journeys. The book project is a free distribution program that gives away thousands of books each year to help children build their home libraries. Combined, these programs reach thousands of children each year in communities across the Washington, d.cDC.c. Region.
