Exposed Brick Theatre is a theater with a mission. It provides education through workshops and residencies, particularly focusing on social justice theater workshops for high schools. It also works with colleges and universities to integrate social justice theater into orientation and student life events. Additionally, it offers Equity, Diversity and Inclusion trainings to arts and funding organizations using an arts-based focus. In 2022, Exposed Brick worked with several of Minnesota's Regional Arts Councils, resulting in a significant number of trainees.

Program areas at Exposed Brick Theatre

New Play Development and Performances. In 2023, we produced three plays, two of which were world premieres (Code You by Nora Montanez Patterson and Muyehpen by Ehkhudah Zar) and one of which was a co-production with Pillsbury House + Theatre (Passage by Christopher Chen). In addition, we led a four month cohort for 12 early career BIPOC playwrights, which culminated in a public shared reading at Public Functionary. We also held two other readings/workshops for early career playwrights. Number benefitting: 2,670
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion trainings. Using an arts-based focus, Exposed Brick provides Equity, Diversity and Inclusion training to arts and funding organizations. In 2023, Exposed Brick worked with the Boards of several arts organizations, as well as the faculty of St. Catherine's University. Number benefitting: 202
Education: EBT taught workshops at nine Minneapolis Public and St Paul Public high schools. Workshops were provided at no cost to the schools and included workshops based on the play Muyehpen, workshops based on the play Passage and social justice theater workshops. EBT partnered with The Remember Project and ASHA USA for educational events featuring the filmed version of Alia Jerry's play Mango Songs, which promotes discussion about dementia and Alzheimers, particularly for South Asian communities in the Twin Cities metro area. EBT also brought scenes from Muyehpen to Southwest Minnesota State University, and wrote and produced a new orientation video for the University of Minnesota. Number benefitting: 1,026 (in person); 5,000 (streaming - University of MN orientation video).
