Program areas at Fair Trade Federation
The 2022 Fair Trade Federation Annual Conference (normally held in person) was facilitated virtually (using Zoom events)and served as a showcase for the work of FTF Members and their committment to fair trade business practices. Approximately 350 attendees registered for the event. There were sessions on business best practices, communication with artisan groups, and a virtual Expo which featured many member's products. The conference also highlighted the importance of incorporating JEDI (justice, equity, diversity, inclusion) into the future of the fair trade movement.
Membership Verification The backbone of the Fair Trade Federation's work is the verification of fair trade practices of both new members and all current members, which provides a mark of trust for their products in the marketplace. Using the FTF's code of practice as a guide, applicants are screened against all 9 fair trade principles. Existing members are reverified annually, assuring their practices are meeting the standards set in the code of practice, and continued improvement over time.
Online Guides and Activities educating about and promoting fully committed fair trade In 2022 the Federation worked to educate consumers and retailers on the value of verified fair trade brands (especially in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic) by creating online guides, including a Holiday Gift Guide. For Fair Trade Month (October) the Fair Trade Federation hosted its second Silent Auction to promote and raise awareness of fair trade to a wide audience.
