Program areas at Families Against Narcotics
The state opioid response (sor) grant aims to address the opioid crisis by supporting evidence-based prevention, treatment and recovery support services to address opioid use disorder (oud) and other substance use disorders (sud). Families Against Narcotics (fan) helps individuals seeking to reduce their dependency on such substances to find viable treatment options, as well as provides peer recovery coaches and sober living scholarships. Fan offers education to the public (including students, parents, first responders, doctors and others) about the dangers of oud / sud and to help reduce the attached stigma. Fan also offers family recovery coaches to those affected by another's addiction. In addition, fan trains people how to properly administer naloxone /narcan, while distributing this life- saving drug that can counter the effects of an opioid overdose.
Other programs: we want to change the prescription and treatment of addiction and to be an advocator for change throughout society. Through real people sharing real stories and factual data, we reduce the stigma attached to addiction and create an open forum for Families and professionals to receive valuable insight. We educate to raise awareness and save lives by partnering with insurance companies, medical professionals, legislators, the legal community, public safety, Families and friends, facilitating change in the way addiction is viewed and treated. This encompasses a broad range of initiatives, from providing support to an individual family, to hosting our community drug awareness nights to advocating for more drug courts, longer term treatment options or legislative changes. Making a difference, one step at a time.
