Program areas at Families and Communities Rising
Fcr head start/early head start programs promote school readiness of children ages birth to five from low-income Families by supporting the development of the whole child in durham and orange county, north carolina. The programs serve the most vulnerable young children in our service areas to succeed in school and in life beyond school. In addition, the program also serves pregnant mothers in the home-based program option. To achieve this, our early head start programs deliver services to children and Families in core areas of early learning, health, and family well-being while engaging parents every step of the way. The fcr head start/early head start programs are funded to serve 714 students. Head start/early head start arp- the american rescue plan funds are supplemental grant funds to provide additional covid support for the head start and early head start program which is funded to serve 714 children and Families. The funding will assist the program in adding additional education and family engagement staff, provide for weekly classroom and office sanitation and provide summer care of 4-year-old head start students in the summers of 2021 and 2022 for orange and durham counties.
Child abuse prevention programs, including friends national center is a child abuse prevention training and technical assistance provider for community-based child abuse prevention grantees. The organization also develops resources that are offered through its website and online learning center that are available at no cost to the public. Training and resources support evidence-based and evidence-informed practices, evaluation, collaboration, parent engagement and leadership, maximizing fiscal resources, among other areas.
Kidscope programs provide early intervention services, including inclusive childcare, early childhood mental health therapy and consultation, and parent education to approximately 1,168 participants in orange and chatham counties, most of which have disabilities.
The family resource center program provides a family resource center in a housing area of chapel hill, north carolina. In addition to providing resources for the general community, it operates an after-school program for at risk children.
