Program areas at Family Service of Champaign County
Homecare: this program offers seniors non-medical, in home assistance with activities of daily living, including personal care (bathing, grooming, dressing), meal planning and preparation, shopping, errands, laundry and housework. Services may be short-term (e.g., for recuperation from an illness or injury) or long-term, with the goal of allowing the senior to stay at home and prevent or delay nursing home placement.
Meals on wheels: this program provides home-delivered, hot noon meals and optional cold sack suppers to seniors and others who have difficulty preparing meals due to illness, injury or disability. Meal preparation is supervised by a dietician and special diet meals are available. Close to 300 community volunteers deliver the meals five days per week and also provide brief socialization and a reassurance check for those receiving the meal.
Senior counseling and advocacy: this program provides a number of services to seniors and their families, including information & assistance, supportive counseling, adult protective services, Family caregiver support and evidence-based healthy aging programs.
Retired and senior volunteer program: this program promotes and supports opportunities for seniors to be involved in the community through volunteerism. The program offers senior volunteers, age 55 or better, placement assistance, mileage and meal reimbursement, insurance and well-deserved recognition.
Creative aging: this program offers opportunities for older adults to express themselves creatively and to enhance social connectivity. This is an increasingly important program of fscc.
Other programs include: Family counseling, senior transportation, children first, self-help center, and the stevick center.
