Program areas at Family Support Network of Central Carolina
Our nicu Support program encompasses various components, including bedside Support from staff members who all have had a personal nicu journey, a home visitation program tailored to the needs of the most fragile babies transitioning from nicu to home, an early literacy initiative know as "books for babies", assistance in accessing community resources, and aid in the form of baby supplies, meal provisions, and gas vouchers. During 2023/2024, our efforts extended to more than 600 nicu families. We provided 1,519 books, 44 pack-n-plays valued at $70 each, as well as 80 packs of baby supplies valued at $100 each. Additionally, we distributed 263 sibling Support bags and supplied 165 gas cards, each valued at $10 to families in need, aiding them in transportation to the hospital.through our partnership with another local organization, we were able to expand our assistance to select nicu families, offering a monthly supply of diapers, wipes, and food for three months post-discharge.
Community Support and other program services:our disability community Support program, which served over 100 families last year, encompasses Support for spanish-speaking families, the operation of five parent groups, special events, and a sibling Support program (sibshops) tailored for children who have siblings with disabilities or special healthcare needs. We hosted multiple events for the disability community, drawing a combined attendance of over 800 participants. These events provided engaging activities and access to essential community resources and served as an opportunity to raise awareness and garner Support for parents caring for children with special healthcare needs.we have over 87 parent mentors ready to be matched with families facing similar diagnoses or experiences, whether it be a nicu stay or a child with a unique healthcare need. Out dedicated staff is proficient in assisting families in locating community resources for necessities such as food assistance, clothing, housing, and advocacy. Moreover, we actively participate in various committees within the healthcare systems and in the broader community to further our mission of Support and advocacy.
