Program areas at Farms Work Wonders Corporation

Farms Work Wonders is an umbrella nonprofit social enterprise that creates living classrooms - including our organic farm, market, bakery, glass blowing studio, and, newly launched this year, our restaurant - mack's bingo kitchen. Through these enterprises, we provide real-life learning experiences and generate income. The nonprofit social enterprise model allows us to address historically negative economic development in appalachia. Unlike traditional businesses that often extracted profits for outside interest, our social enterprise model creates sustainable enterprises that reinvest 100% back into the local community. And, since we are nonprofit, we measure our success by our local impact in three key focus areas: people--creating educational and economic opportunities, planet--protecting our natural environment, and proceeds--reinvesting 100% locally.in 2023, we doubled employment and youth training opportunities through mack's bingo kitchen, marking our fifth social enterprise. Since 2016, we've welcomed 273 new hires, engaged 112 local youth in employment, and served 122,697 guests across our enterprises, in a town with a population of 270. We've proudly donated $313,492 to the community, including $201,145 in scholarships directly benefiting our youth. This reinvestment into people, planet, and proceeds supports educational pathways, environmental stewardship, and economic revitalization, empowering appalachian youth to See themselves and their futures in new and exciting ways.
