Program areas at Farmworker Association of Florida

Agroecology - The Farmworker Association of Florida has three community gardens in three of our office; one in Fellsmere, one in Apopka, and one in Pierson. These gardens are in shared land, owned by other entities, in two cases a local government, in the case of Apopka by the Hope CommUnity Center. The aim of the gardens is to create a safe food alternative to our communities and address issues of lack of access to quality, nutritious food. These food sources also have served as alternatives when food scarcity has occurred, as it did at the beginning of the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, the gardens also help educate on traditional farming practices and community agriculture practiced free of toxins and pesticides.
USDA - The organization collaborates with USDA to provide relief payments to eligible farm workers in response to COVID-19 pandemic.
Research - The organization partners with research institutions such as the University of Florida, Florida State University,Emory University, and Florida International University to carry our community based participatory research on issues of farmworker health such as heat and pesticide exposure, and education for farmworkers and employers on the dangers of these issues and prevention.
