Program areas at Father Leopold Moczygemba Foundation
The bylaws of the Father Leopold Moczygemba Foundation (flmf) state the following,"the purposes of the corporation include but are not limited to fostering relationships between persons in Texas and silesia, poland; to establish cooperation between educational institutions located in silesia, poland and Texas; and to establish ties between churches located in silesia and Texas." In previous years, flmf focused mainly on the exempt purposes of providing scholarships to students who wrote about the silesian heritage and funding different ways to establish a library or center where genealogical and cultural history of the silesian decendants can be presented in books, libraries, ect. Both in Texas and silesia as well as assisting churches in silesia. These practices were still conducted during 2022, however, due to the war started by russia in the ukraine, the americans of silesian descent in Texas wanted to do more. Just like the united states is assisting the citizens and country of ukraine, flmf has taken steps to assist the people living in silesia poland to deal with the massive influx of ukrainian citizens that left ukraine and now reside in silesia, poland. Flmf has sent money to 5 different religious and charitable organizations in poland to assist them in providing for education and basic needs of these ukrainian citizens that have overwhelmed the silesian schools, churches, and cities. The officers understand this activity is new for this organization , but believe it was important to assist the people in silesia poland and are related to its original exempt charitable purposes. Detailed 2022 exempt purpose activities 1) awarded 2 $1000 scholarships to students that wrote essays related to silesian heritage and lives of silesian texans. 2) sent money to 4 religious charities in silesia to assist the silesian people with the massive influx of refugees from ukraine overwhelming the schools, churches, ect. The sisters of the holy family from wr0claw(diocese of opole) $10,000 carritas of the diocese of opole $100,000 carritas of the diocese of gliwice $50,000 carritas of the archdiocese of katowice $25,000 3) sent money to the "commune council of strzelce opolskie in silesia for the "heritage roomx and library to foster our shared culture.
