In light of rising obesity rates in the United States our YMCA participates in YMCA of the USA healthy living initiatives and engages in a variety of programs and community activities designed to help the at risk population develop habits and relationships that lead to more active lifestyles. In addition, due to the assets deficit many kids suffer from we reinforce asset development in all we do. This includes after school, sports, arts and enrichment, aquatics, and well-being programs. In 2023 the YMCA continued youth fitness initiatives, including Pre-teen Fitness Training; Sports Specific Training and Conditioning, and youth enrichment. Sports programs for youth, families, and adults promote teamwork, interaction, and development of social and physical skills. 626 kids ages 3-15 participated in YMCA youth sports in 2023. Our Silver Sneakers and aquatic exercise programs keep seniors active and flexible. Our instructional aquatics program helps develop physical and water safety skills in toddlers and youth. YMCA youth and teen programs such as strength and conditioning, teen nights, fun nights, and day camp give kids good role models to help them develop self-esteem and good values, including cooperation, respect, citizenship, and a strong work ethic. Our family strengthening programs, such as free family nights, family martial arts, daddy-daughter dance, and movie nights at the Y provide an outlet for families to build stronger bonds while interacting with families of various socioeconomic backgrounds. Our services are offered at affordable fees for the community at-large, with reasonable accommodations for those with special needs. Financial assistance is available for those who cannot afford the full fee.
School Age Before and After School Child Care, and Summer Day Camp served 148 kids in 2023. The YMCA also provided scholarship assistance for summer day camp valued at $8,000. YMCA school age child care serving kids in kindergarten through 6th grade provides a lasting experience of personal enrichment in a safe, supervised, asset building environment. Child Care offers adventure and learning activities that provide challenge and promote spiritual awareness, mental development, physical well-being, social growth, and self-respect.
