Program areas at Feed the Hungry San Miguel
Meals Program: Through our school kitchens in poor communities, we provide more than 4,000 hot, well-balanced meals every school day to disadvantaged children. We also deliver foodstuffs for the daily meals of hundred of orphans, children with disabilities, and elderly who are served by seven local urban charities.
Kitchen Construction at Don Francisco: On 18 Jan 2023, a sparkling kitchen and a shaded dining area were inaugrated in the community of Don Francisco. What made this kitchen different was that is was created inside a shipping container instead of being built of brick and mortar. The concept reduces construction costs & time. Conditions in the community, located 18 miles west of San Miguel de Allende, made it necessary to place it by crane. The donation & re-design of the interior of the container was a gift from long-time donor and architect/builder Arq. Rafael Franco.
Los Ricos Programs: In Los Ricos de Abajo, nutritious meals are served to 54 students at the Naciones Unidas primaria (elementary) school & 14 students of the Helen Keller kinder (preschool) every school day. A corps of volunteer teachers from the USA & Canada, under the direction of a former FTH San Miguel Trustee, conduct English classes for children and adults, have built a school library, and a Learning Center with computers & internet, funded a dining hall at the school, & provide scholarships and encourage continued education.
Other programs and expenses: Donations of masks ($29,694); Early Nutrition program ($20,004); Moskowitz grant ($16,536); and Clean Water Projects ($7,115).
