Program areas at Feeding Indiana's Hungry
Feeding Indiana's Hungry provides assistance to member food banks through public education and advocacy, cooperation on statewide initiatives and the Million Meals and SNAP projects. Funding comes from dues paid by member food banks based on poverty and unemployment data, gifts and grants.
Million Meals is a partnership with the Indiana Pork Producers supported 100% by contributions. Indiana Pork markets the program to its members and allied industries. Feeding Indiana's Hungry accepts and processes financial donations, purchases pork for processing, and arranges transportation to food banks. The pounds distributed are based on a formula that considers unemployment and poverty on a county by county basis. There were no expenses in FY 2023.
Feeding Indiana's Hungry provides SNAP outreach activities and public education through training available to local food bank agencies, resources created, and information disseminated to the public about the program. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program aids in low-income individuals purchasing food to provide for their families.
