Program areas at Five One Labs
Empowering colombian and venezuelan entrepreneurs in colombia: Five One Labs launched operations in barranquilla, colombia in october 2022 to support local and displaced venezuelan entrepreneurs to launch scalable, innovative businesses. We designed and implemented a variety of educational entrepreneurship programs with local partners, including collaborative workshops on design thinking and business development and our "ignite" market research programs for close to 50 entrepreneurs. These workshops culminated in the launch of our first startup incubator in colombia for 16 startups led by local and displaced entrepreneurs. We also reached over 500 aspiring entrepreneurs through our educational and networking events in the city.
Entrepreneurship support in iraq: during Five One Labs' sixth year of operations in the kri, our organization continued to expand our impact with our first academic startup incubator in partnership with the american university of kurdistan in duhok, entrepreneurship summer programs across the country, ongoing investment facilitation and thought leadership work, and workshops in 6 refugee and idp camps in the region to support displaced entrepreneurs. Five One Labs launched our first programs in federal iraq in partnership with local organizations, including our first female founders fellowship for impressive women entrepreneurs in baghdad and our first startup incubator in basra. We supported 360 entrepreneurs through our intensive programs across the country, and hundreds more through events and networking opportunities.
Creating more investment opportunities for entrepreneurs in iraq: Five One invest creates more efficient deal-making opportunities for investors and increases access to capital for entrepreneurs as they scale throughout iraq. Invest uses knowledge-sharing, learning programs, and startup-investor facilitation to achieve this mission. This includes the publication of a monthly "iraq investment insider" newsletter, masterclasses for later-stage startups, original research to expand knowledge and understanding of the investment ecosystem and bringing together investors and ecosystem stakeholders through convenings and roundtable discussions. In fy23, invest's work reached hundreds through education and learning opportunities, and our newsletter connected with more than 250 top investors and decision makers across the middle east.
Other programs ran during the year include the following: (1) Five One registration initiative to support the business registration of founders; (2) regular entrepreneurship workshops and events for the community; and (3) our co-working space facility that provides a variety of office spaces to meet individual requirements.
