Floating Doctors

Over 120,000 people live in our current mission location, the province of bocas del toro in panama. About 80,000 people, primarily indigenous ngabe-bugle, live scattered across small islands, mangroves swamps, and along jungle river systems in remote rural locations with little or no access to services. We regularly visit more than 32 key communities over a 5,000 square-mile area for which we provide primary heath care, health education and community development projects.in 2020 we hosted 30 volunteers from 5 countries and treated over 9,500 patients and we conducted more than 250 days of clinic work. We expanded our community health education program by partnering with the university of California, irvine to train indigenous mid-wives in ultra-sounding working to identify high-risk mothers and worked with usc global school of medicine to focus on diabetes identification and diet modifications. Through the build out of three key community remote out-posts we have facilitated community improvement projects that include telecommunications, electricity, and rain catchment systems.
