Program areas at Florida Association of City Clerks
Two professional education academies are sponsored each year - one in the fall and one in the summer - affording City Clerks in Florida the opportunity to acquire the designation of certified municipal clerk and master municipal clerk. These academies offer the attendees a chance to explore common forums and network. Topics this year for the fall academy included structure and function of local government in Florida, election basics, records management, identification and verification of documents used for notarization, ethics in the workplace, managing overwhelming expectations, core communication with your citizens, emotional intelligence and strategic communication, and diverse conversations. Topics this year for the summer academy included the 2023 legislative update, municipal fraud awareness and prevention, understanding first amendment audits, the beauty of understanding, public speaking made easy, campaign and election overview for municipal Clerks, understanding stress management to better achieve work/life balance, email management, and active learning strategies utilizing stress management techniques.the fall academy had 179 attendees and the summer academy had 205 attendees.
Webinars - these provide Clerks the opportunity to acquire two hours cmc/mmc credit per webinar. Three webinars were produced this fiscal year. Recorded webinars were also made available throughout the year. Topics covered this year included parliamentary procedure for meetings, Florida law & drafting municipal ordinances & resolutions, and essential records, disaster mitigation and recovery. A total of 264 members participated in these webinars.
