Program areas at Florida Center for the Blind

the organization provides free vision rehabilitation to those who are Blind or visually impaired. Services are provided through the following programs: Blind babies; children; transition for teens; independent living skills; orientation and mobility; vocational regabilitation/job readiness; braille instruction and access technology. the organization serves alachua, bradford, columbia, dixie, gilchrist, levy, marion and union counties. the organization served a total of 325 unduplicated clients (9,614 hours). Of the total number of clients served, 52 percent were not funded through the state contracts either due to not qualifying for services through the division of Blind services or because of exceeding the number of clients we are contracted to see. It is through private donors that we are allowed to service this "unfunded" group. In addition, the organization conducted 11,584 free vision screenings for the children of marion county.
