The Florida Keys children'Childrens's Shelter (fkcs) is committed to ensuring the safety, nurturing, and development of children and youth in our community through a comprehensive suite of services that address their immediate and long-term needs. In the fiscal year 2022-2023, fkcs has achieved significant milestones in delivering on its mission of creating safe kids, strong families, and a healthy community.program service accomplishments:community-based counseling program:fkcs served 203 youth in our non-residential community-based counseling program. This program is designed to support at-risk youth by providing timely interventions and counseling services that address their unique needs and challenges, empowering them towards a more positive future.street outreach services:our outreach team made significant impacts by contacting and providing necessary supplies, referrals, and survival kits to over 100 youth. This outreach is critical in connecting with at-risk youth who may not otherwise have access to essential services.residential Shelter services:we provided Shelter to 155 youth, totaling 2,789 bed days. During their stay, youth received comprehensive care including over 8,367 meals and 5,578 snacks to ensure their nutritional needs were met.each resident benefited from health screenings, reinforcing our commitment to addressing the holistic needs of our youth. These screenings are vital for identifying and addressing potential health issues that could impact their well-being.achievements beyond numbers:the impact of our programs extends beyond measurable outputs. Fkcs's approach creates a profound effect on individual lives and the broader community.empowerment and stability: by providing a safe and supportive environment, fkcs empowers youth to pursue educational and personal growth opportunities, contributing to their stability and reducing potential negative outcomes such as homelessness or involvement with the criminal justice system.community engagement and awareness: fkcs plays a crucial role in enhancing community awareness about the challenges facing at-risk youth. Through various initiatives and collaborations, we have fostered a community-oriented approach that encourages local involvement and support.long-term impact: the services provided by fkcs contribute to long-term societal benefits by preparing young individuals to be self-sufficient and responsible adults, thereby enhancing community health and reducing future dependency on social services.fkcs remains dedicated to adapting and expanding our services to meet the evolving needs of the children and youth in monroe county. Our achievements are a testament to the hard work of our staff and the generosity of our supporters, who together make it possible to continue our vital work.
