Program areas at Florida Museum of Photographic Arts
Exhibition programs: the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts (fmopa) is an institution that collects and exhibits fine-art photography. We are nationally and internationally recognized for our carefully curated exhibitions, which feature significant historical material as well as insightful and relevant contemporary photography. During the 2023 fiscal year, fmopa presented over 20 exhibitions featuring seminal work by emerging and established photographers who are both local to the tampa bay community as well as internationally recognized. These exhibitions helped shape and inform the cultural landscape of the greater tampa bay area and advanced the Museum's role as a center of Arts education.
Education programs: fmopa is dedicated to fostering creativity and increasing access to art and photography through diverse education initiatives that span all skill levels - from iphone photography for beginners to in-depth professional fine Arts photography training for our most advanced students. Educational offerings vary from one day workshops to weekend trips to scenic locations where students gain hands-on training with professionals in the field. These courses are the bridge that allows fmopa visitors to fully connect with the art on the walls; by teaching students the language and techniques of photography, fmopa creates a visually literate audience who can then go on to develop their own artistic perspective.
Public programs: in conjunction with our exhibitions, fmopa's diverse lineup of public programs makes photography and Arts education available and accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. The lineup includes artist and curator lectures, art-inspired social events, film screenings, a book club, unique workshops for families with young children, and a monthly downtown art crawl. Each of these programs serves to attract visitors to the Museum, cultivate interest in the Arts and photography, and engage a diverse audience.
