Program areas at Food Moxie
The hope garden - the organization established the hope garden in 2009 to provide structured garden, nutrition, and culinary Programs for the residents of stenton family manor (an emergency housing facility for families experiencing homelessness). Fresh produce is grown for the kitchen, thereby improving the nutritional value of meals provided to residents.
Youth leadership development - this program takes place in collaboration with the co-op and saul agricultural high school to serve as an outdoor classroom and land lab for saul students. The co-op's farm is the setting for hands-on experimental learning related to small-scale urban farm production, as well as how to prepare and enjoy nutritious Food.
The hope farm - the organization established the hope farm at martin luther king high school in 2014 to teach life skills related to urban farming, culinary arts and nutrition to students with intellectual disabilities and autism. This horticultural therapy program provides experimental learning that connects classroom lessons with real-life application. The farm also provides gardening, farming and culinary arts education to students in the school's culinary arts program and to other members of the school Community.
