Navigation services provide medical and social support through prioritizing the needs of the ayas seen at the community facilities. One of those facilities is Fort Worth baylor, scott & white where the fwaya aya 6-bed unit is located. It is restricted for ayas ages 28-39 who have been diagnosed with cancer. Navigation utilizes the aya needs assessment tool and patient notebook to assist with medical, psychological, and social support referrals.
The organization works with local health care organizations to make educational presentations regarding the issues in treating cancer patients within the 15 to 29 year age group, including but not limited to their unique physiological, psychological and social needs, the clinical trials available to patients of that age group, and any other specific resources that may be available to the physicians and/or the patients to facilitate the treatment. The organization also lectures at high schools, colleges, and universities to promote healthy living, cancer prevention, and self-advocacy throughout the Fort Worth community.
Psychological services include an aya clinical psychologist that provides therapy sessions, a psychologist and nurse that provide aya support group facilitation and research assistants that work with the fwaya clinical psychologist to research, write and publish aya specific information important for future treatments and educational awareness.
