In 2023, Fossil Free California demonstrated what momentum looks like in action:-Expanded our divestment coalition to180 organizations to support public pension divestment-Supported youth organizers attendance and power-building at two California Teachers Association State Councils which in turn resulted in three caucuses and several union locals publicly supporting divestment-Hosted a powerful webinar on the role of unions in pension divestment attended by over 100 union members statewide.-Earned extensive media coverage with over 50 articles by major news outlets including Bloomberg, POLITICO, Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times.-Secured resolutions in support of public pension divestment by 13 unions, including CFT,California Faculty Association, AFSCME California, California Nurses Association, plus 5 cities.-Secured endorsements from Fiona Ma, Oakland City Attorney Barbara J. Parker, Bill McKibben, and the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis-Co-sponsored Climate Accountability Lobby day in support of SB 252, SB 253 and SB 261, which included over 150 participants and effected over 29 lobbying visits with current legislators. (SB 253 and SB 261 passed.)-Advocated for a divestment bill (SB252) which passed three Senate committees and a full Senate floor vote
