Program areas at Found Sound Nation
Found Sound Nation (fsn) partners with local youth, social organizations, music festivals, and artists across all disciplines to engage people from all walks of life in our interactive process of collaborative music, audio, and video production, in order to give voice to underrepresented communities, unlock the creative potential of youth, and bridge cultural and political divides. In fiscal year 2022 (sept 2021-aug 2022), coming out of the covid-19 pandemic, we were able to resume in-person programming, while continuing virtual programming. Our top three programs for the year included (1) street studio india, a virtual exchange between music producers in the u.s. and india, in which participants developed community-based music production projects, funded by the u.s. embassy in new dehli; (2) residencies for "commercial," a multimedia performance we are developing in collaboration with acclaimed artist dahlak brathwaite about issues of criminal justice and the movement for black lives; and (3) planning for a project entitled "undergound everywhere," an exchange between artists in south africa and black americans in the u.s. The generation equality forum (via santhosh daniel) to create a series of music videos and portrait videos for their global women's leadership conference in june 2021. We also led a program called Found Sound mexico in partnership (and funded by) the us embassy in mexico, which brought together producers and musicians from across mexico to exchange strategies for youth engagement through music. Once again we led youth music composition workshops for a summer programs in hudson, ny, in partnership with kite's nest. We also produced and commissioned audio recordings for splice, Inc. Original sample packs, coordinating recordings with artists around the globe.
