Program areas at FAAR
Ask, Listen, Learn is a multimedia program available in print and online for parents and middle school age kids. The program is based on research that identifies parents as the leading influence in kids' decisions not to drink. By fostering conversations between parents and kids, youth will learn about the consequences of underage drinking, how alcohol affects growing bodies and minds and how to stand up to peer pressure. Materials for parents (also available in Spanish) help parents with both what to say to their kids about alcohol and how to say it.
Responsibility.org has formed The National Alliance to Stop Impaired Driving (NASID) to provide a strong, collaborative national focus on the growing problem of multiple substance impaired driving. NASID is a coalition dedicated to saving lives, promoting awareness, achieving DUI system reform, improving DUI detection and data, and deploying technology to fight all forms of impaired driving.
Hardcore drunk drivers account for a disproportionate share of drunk driving fatalities on our roads. In an effort to achieve FAAR's mission of eliminating drunk driving, efforts are underway to reduce the fatalities caused by this group of offenders. A law school curriculum has been developed with Suffolk Law School. Judicial publications serve to assist judges in their efforts to adjudicate these complex cases, and FAAR continues to support Harvard Medical School's efforts to create and test the cars assessment tool designed to focus on the mental health issues facing nearly half of these offenders.
Alcohol 101 Plus is an innovative, interactive program which helps students make safe and responsible decisions about alcohol on college campuses. Set on a "virtual campus," Alcohol 101 Plus includes a "virtual bar, and content targeted to at-risk populations - first-year students, Greeks, student athletes, and judicial policy offenders. Alcohol 101 Plus enables educators to administer online pre- and post-surveys for students, access test results, and access downloadable educational materials including a facilitator's guide with learning objectives and recommended activities for each content section of the program.
