The organization was established to promote brotherhood among the men and women of the Lexington Fire Department, act as a public service organization to educate the public about fire safety, and to provide opportunities for the firefighters to serve the community. The organization continued it's signature annual toy program, as well as various community awareness activities, the monument to the fallen and the firefighters stairclimb.

Program areas at Fraternal Order of Firefighters of Lexington Fire Department

Community service- the organization provides various forms of community service throughout the year including seminars, programs such as the citizens Fire academy and Fire prevention week. The citizens Fire academy was created to help the citizens of Lexington better understand how the Lexington Fire departments service their community. The Fire prevention week is a week dedicated to educating the public on Fire prevention and safety issues.
Firefighters fellowship - activities to promote the brotherhood and sisterhood of the Lexington Fire Department including an annual awards banquet, campout, support of Lexington Fire combat challenge and other activities that strenghthen the brotherhood/sisterhood.
"firefighter stair climb and monument to the fallen" the monument to the fallen was erected in phoenix park in Lexington to honor the Firefighters that have died in the line of duty. Funds continue to be raised for the necessary maintenance and additions to the monument and other acts of benevolence to Firefighters as situations arise.
