Program areas at Freedom for Immigrants

Monitoring & visitation: we monitor human rights abuses and overall conditions inside immigration detention as part of a broader strategy to amplify the voices, experiences, and leadership of people inside detention through integrated advocacy campaigns. The national immigration detention hotline is the nation's largest immigration detention hotline, connecting people inside detention to a team of trained hotline volunteers that provide immediate support, record their personal testimonies, and build solidarity for abolition. We also convene the national visitation networka network of local groups across the country fighting for abolition while monitoring conditions, documenting abuses, and offering immediate support to people inside.
Community based strategies for decarceration: our community-based programming works to liberate people from immigration detention and ensures people live with dignity in their communities while awaiting their immigration cases. Our immigration bond fund where we raise funds to post bond for detained Immigrants, and just this year we have bonded out 34 individuals from immigration detention and provided assistance post release.
Policy advocacy & narrative change: we conduct legislative and administrative advocacy aimed at abolishing detention by: 1) increasing and strengthening oversight, 2) reducing/limiting the size and scale of the detention system through legislation and the federal budget, and 3) investing in community-based services to provide post-release support and welcome newly arriving Immigrants. As part of a national strategy, ffi works to abolish detention state by state, including in states like California, new jersey, and new york.
