Program areas at Friends of Blackwater Incorporated
The majoring of the Friends funding is used directly for a variety of projects on Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. In FY Projects include supporting environmental education by providing funding for transportation, plants & other supplies; providing funds for the annual Eagle Fest program; funding improvements to the Visitor Center Including installing an automatic door opener improve accessibility; installed a new AV system in the Education Building; upgraded the Osprey Cam and installed anew Waterfowl Cam; installed new signs and markers for 3 aquatic paddling trails (for kayaks and canoes
The Friends also provides funding for a seasonal coordinator to manage the Refuge Hunt Program. The coordinator is responsible for managing the program consistent with Refuge rules, regulations, and conservation plans
‘The Friends provides 3 scholarships annually for college students pursuing studies in conservation or environmental sciences. The scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students entering their Junior or Senior year or those pursuing graduate degrees Students must be Maryland residents based on merit. The top candidate is awarded a $3,000 scholarships, followed by a and $1,000 scholarship the second and third candidate
