Program areas at Friends of Sequoia Therapeutic Recreation
Sequoia TR Group Activities objective is to offer safe, inclusive community-based social, recreational, leisure, sports, events, and activities for individuals with I/DD and their families, promoting socialization, physical activity, and overall well-being. In 2023, Sequoia TR served 153 unduplicated clients through 52 diverse activities, providing 1486 hours of engagement and socialization to 691 registrations through community based activities, and events. Our vision is to be well-respected and trusted as we continue evaluating service gaps in the Tacoma Pierce County area. We aim to increase services through strategic community partnerships, ensuring sustained support and accessibility for individuals with I/DD and their families.
Sequoia TR's Individual Services: Community Engagement, Specialized Habilitation, and Community Inclusion, support individuals with I/DD in achieving their unique goals outlined in their person-centered services plan with the Division of Developmental Disabilities. In 2023, Sequoia TR provided 19 individual clients with 1047 hours of personalized support tailored to their needs and goals. The objective of Individual Services is to empower individuals with I/DD to actively participate in and contribute to their communities, learn self-advocacy, adaptive skills, coping strategies, interpersonal skills, effective communication, self-empowerment, and/or safety awareness.
