Program areas at Friends of South Slough Reserve
Redesign of the Entrance to the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve (SSNERR) Visitor Center. The Organization acquired land for SSNERR and is providing resources to redesign the entrance to the Visitor Center. The entrance revision will provide better egress and ingress from the county road to the visitor center, along with more parking spaces, additional lighting and security cameras. A new sign and sign placement is in progress.
Science Research. The Organization is dedicated to protecting the functions, values, and processes of estuaries, and enhancing the work of the South Slough Reserve. Projects include restoration of upland forests, collection of environmental samples for eDNA analysis, and mapping Lamprey habitat.
Internship Program. The process of developing and delivering science research programs presents ample opportunity for interns to assist with the collection of data and for participating in conducting scientific research.
Interpretive & Education. The Organization is composed of persons interested in protecting the functions, values and processes of estuaries. The Organization sponsors classes for topics that include the estuary, clamming, birding, crabbing, tides, and events for hiking, nature walks, kayaking, and paddling on the South Slough, a National Estuarine Research Reserve.
