They also allocate funds for maintenance of Preserve equipment and vehicles, along with utilities. The Preserve staff shapes gravel and sand trails through woodlands as part of their hydrological work.".

Program areas at Friends of St Joseph Bay Preserves

The purpose of the Friends of St. Joseph Bay Preserves is to support the goals of the managers of the Preserves, to assist them with specific tasks and to show support by raising funds to be used to make improvements to the Preserves. By sponsoring Bay day two times a year, Friends add to their funds and as important, they increase awareness of how the buffer preserve works to make the health of St. Joseph Bay great. Hurricane michael shut down the Bay days for the year however the Friends worked tirelessly in clean-up efforts at the Preserves. Locating equipment, materials and supplies took months, many miles, and much patience.
Recovery from hurricane michael is still a priority for Friends of St. Joseph Bay Preserves. With the destruction created by this hurricane a lot of equipment and necessary supplies were lost that were imperative for Bay day. Locating salvageable items and replacing those not found or not salvageable is paramount for next year. Recovery and reorganization were a major focus for 2019.
