Program areas at Friends of State Parks
Friends of State Parks provides a membership program to promote the use, enjoyment and protection of the north carolina State Parks system in addition to providing direct grant funding to various north carolina State Parks, State agencies, State park chapters and similar non-profit organizations. In 2023, Friends of State Parks provided 7 grants for purposes that included beach access improvements, ranger training and support, and the purchase of kayaks and related gear.
Friends of State Parks provides support and services to all 41 of north carolina's State Parks, and reports and manages the individual funds for 15 local chapters. These Friends of State Parks chapters support their respective Parks with funding for volunteer projects that include educational, recreational, historical, conservation, maintenance, and beautification activities.
Friends of State Parks provides for the junior ranger and youth in Parks - environmental education (yip-ee) programs to engage students to participate in park educational programs, encourage outdoor learning of geology, ecology and cultural history, and encourage stewardshp of natural resources. 14 yip-ee grants were awarded in 2023.
