Friends of the Musees Des Arts Decoratifs

Grants provided during the year to the musee Des Arts Decoratifs (paris, france) in order to fund the following projects:1. $67,920 to support the following - request for approval of a fellowship for a phd student who is performing an inventory of the defosse & karth wallpaper collection in the museum; acquisition at auction of a 1780 drawing by espirit-antoine abelin; support by the Friends of a gala to be held for the "cercle Des Arts graphiques". the Friends would support the gala by accepting subscriptions for tickets to the gala, of which 2/3 of the purchase price would be a gift to the museum; a related item in the grant request is the support of the Friends for the encouragement of memberships in various clubs of museum supporters. the request is that the Friends accept membership subscriptions in support of the operating expenses of the museum or special projects undertaken by such membership clubs.2. $200,000 to support various restoration expenses of the fashion and textile departments.3. $913,200 to support the following - the upcoming iris van herpen exhibition, which will open in the fashion galleries in november 2023. the request for $800,000 includes fuding for the exhibition scenography, the restoration of certain "looks" proposed to be included in the exhibition, the creation of the "wave," a sculptural installation that will be displayed as part of the exhibition, and the creation of ten "sound atmospheres" to be used as ambient sound in the exhibition galleries; the request for $100,000 to fund parts of the scenography for the upcoming fashion and sport exhibition, including the construction of an athletic track, luminous rings resembling the olympic rings and mannequins in the posture of participants in various sporting activities; the request for $13,200 to fund the acquisition of a 1666 drawing attributed to thomas blanchet for the design of a tabernacle for an altar. 4. $129,418 to fund the renovation of the 5th floor reading room.
