Cash Grants and assistance to the Pikes Peak Library District and various branches. This is the primary purpose of the Friends.We contributed $113,907 to PPLD in 2023. Our contributions helped to support the following programs sponsored by PPLD: - Summer Adventure - Winter Adult Reading - Kindergarten Roundup - Homeschool Fair - Manitou Springs and Palmer Lake Summer Concert Series - Regional History Symposium - Mountain of Authors - Annual Yule Ball - BookBrowse - PPD Annual Training & Development Conference - Night At the Library GalaIn Addition, the contributions helped support specific Branch Library needs, staff support and appreciation. $58,000 of the contribution made in 2023 will be used to support the following 2024 programs: - Mountain of Authors - Regional History Symposium - Winter Adult Reading - BookBrowse - Night at the Library Gala - Lunch for Staff during Summer Adventure
2023 Activities - the annual meeting was held in person on January 27, 2023. Rita Jordan, President, presented the year in review including financials, Presented the 2023 Volunteer of the Year Award to Jan Ditton. Barbara Nickless, 2023 winner of the Golden Quill Award, was the keynote speaker. - Literary Awards was held on June 3, 2023. Authors, W. Michael Gear and Kathleen O'Neal Gear, were the keynote speaker and recipient of the Frank Waters Award. Peggy Shivers was the first recipient of the "Best Friends Award." - Latina Voices was held on September 20th, 2023. - Author Talks - a Free event for Friends members and library patrons were held on April 8, 2023 with the presenting author Barbara J. Boxer; and on July 15th, 2023 with the presenting author Mike Torreano. - Sip N' Shop - a new event to recognize and honor library staff and Friends volunteers, was held on December 3rd, 2023.
Personal, supplies and other costs related to the operations of the Friends bookstores and sales. - The Friends has 1,216 MembersBook Sales continued at 21c, East, Penrose and all branch loctions. We continued to sell books online via ebay, Amazon and other online storefronts. The Big Book Sales were held at East on March 10 - 12, 2023 and October 13 - 15, 2023.
