Pelota de trapo - the pelota de trapo program is a dynamic three-step initiative designed to empower youth, foster leadership skills, and promote environmental stewardship and community engagement. Step 1: creating a community of young leaders: the program kicks off with a transformative three-day leadership program aimed at cultivating a community of young leaders. Through interactive workshops, team-building activities, and reflective sessions, participants are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to become agents of change in their communities. Facilitated by experienced mentors and educators, this immersive experience empowers youth to identify their strengths, articulate their values, and develop leadership competencies that will serve them both personally and professionally. Step 2: pelota de trapo workshop: building on the foundation laid in the leadership program, participants transition into the pelota de trapo workshop-a hands-on training experience where youth take on the role of trainers. Central to this workshop is the concept of pelota de trapo (rag ball), which intertwines principles of recycling, creativity, and community service. Participants learn how to repurpose everyday materials into eco-friendly toys and sports equipment, promoting sustainability and environmental awareness. Equipped with the skills and knowledge acquired during the workshop, participants then step into leadership roles as they deliver pelota de trapo workshops for children in their communities. These workshops not only provide practical training in recycling and craftsmanship but also empower children to become leaders in their own right, fostering a sense of ownership and agency as they engage in hands-on activities that promote environmental responsibility and community building. Step 3: empowering youth leaders: as youth trainers, participants play a pivotal role in empowering the next generation of leaders. By serving as mentors and role models, they inspire children to embrace creativity, environmental stewardship, and community service. Through their ongoing involvement in the pelota de trapo program, youth leaders continue to refine their leadership skills, expand their networks, and make a positive impact on the world around them.
National catholic youth event - the national catholic youth event (ncyc) in 2023, hosted in indianapolis, brought together catholic youth from across the united states for a vibrant gathering of faith, community, and empowerment. Within the dynamic atmosphere of ncyc, Scholas provided a platform for young attendees to delve into the critical intersections of leadership and social impact. Through interactive sessions, thought-provoking discussions, and hands-on activities, participants were equipped with the skills, insights, and inspiration needed to effect meaningful change in their communities and beyond. As part of this workshop, participants had the opportunity to explore diverse perspectives, cultivate empathy, and develop practical strategies for addressing pressing social issues. By engaging with Scholas' renowned pedagogy, attendees gained a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between leadership, service, and the promotion of positive societal change. By integrating Scholas' expertise into the fabric of ncyc, the convention not only provided a platform for spiritual growth and fellowship but also empowered catholic youth to become catalysts for transformative action in their communities, guided by the principles of compassion, justice, and solidarity.
Scholas citizenship programme - the Scholas citizenship program is dedicated to empowering students from diverse backgrounds to engage meaningfully with their community. By fostering a constructive perspective, the program encourages young people to take on the role of creators, devising projects that address local challenges and drive positive change. Rooted in the Scholas Occurrentes pedagogy, which sees education as the fusion of intellect, empathy, and action, this philosophy forms the backbone of the program's approach. Participants, typically high school students in grades 10 through 12, embark on a transformative six-day journey, spending five hours each day immersed in activities that nurture their leadership skills and sense of civic responsibility. Facilitated in collaboration with 30 high schools within the same city, the program provides a dynamic platform for students to develop their abilities and make tangible contributions to their communities. Following the program, Scholas remains committed to supporting and implementing the community service projects conceived by the youth, ensuring that their efforts continue to make a lasting impact beyond the program's conclusion.
