Program areas at Gainesville Opportunity Center
The Gainesville Opportunity Center (GOC), an accredited Mental Health Clubhouse for persons with severe and persistent mental illness, serves approximately 70 individuals through the following activities: A work-ordered day program, supported employment assistance, educational support services, socialization opportunities, and mental illness awareness events. Approximately 20 members access the Clubhouse daily and approximately 15 members have received pre-employment services and job placement assistance. GOC is open Monday-Friday, including all federal holidays, scheduled weekends, and evening hours, to serve members who need access to their community and friends. GOC is a member of the Florida Network of Mental Health Clubhouses, who reports that Clubhouse Members experience 98% fewer psychiatric hospitalizations, 97% fewer encounters with law enforcement, and 89% report an improved quality of life.
