Program areas at GC

Conservation impact grants program: in 2023, Galapagos Conservancy continued its focus on science-based conservation of species, restoration of ecosystems, and building a more sustainable society in Galapagos. A primary mechanism through which we do so is our impact grant program that has supported over thirty projects to save both terrestrial and marine wildlife as well as support the local community develop sustainable enterprises.
Galapagos initiative: our iniciativa Galapagos program, in collaboration with the Galapagos national park directorate, is helping rescue and recover populations of giant tortoises and other endangered species across the Galapagos. In 2023 Galapagos Conservancy led several field expeditions to monitor giant tortoises and other endangered species on the islands of fernandina, espanola, santiago, and isabela.
Education for sustainability: in 2023, working in close partnership with ecuador's ministry of education we help educators teach core subjects in the context of local examples and sustainability principles. Using active learning approaches we are preparing the island's 7,500 prek-12 students to become environmentally minded, critical-thinking conservation stewards.
