Description
The Galveston Historical Foundation preserves and revitalizes the architectural and maritime heritage of Galveston Island through historic preservation and education. They operate two museum sites, the 1892 Bishop's Palace and the Texas Seaport Museum, and maintain five other historic sites as rental venues and a collections facility. Their events, including Dickens on the Strand and Historic Homes Tour, attract visitors from all over Texas and beyond, playing a major role in heritage tourism on Galveston Island. In addition, they host the Galveston Island Beach Revue and Tall Ship Festival.

Program areas at Galveston Historical Foundation

Ghf events, dickens on the strand and historic homes tour, play a major role in heritage tourism on Galveston island attracting people from all over Texas and beyond. In addition to these large events, ghf is host to Galveston island beach revue, tall ships Galveston and many other smaller events held at our historic venues. Over 2,000 volunteers are utilized for ghf events.
Ghf historic properties include the operation of two museum sites, the 1892 bishop's palace and the Texas seaport museum. Ghf maintains and operates five other historic sites as rental venues and a collections facility. Through the Texas seaport museum, we operate the seagull ii, our maritime and historic harbor tour vessel. Education and group tours play a major function in bringing visitors to the sites.
Ghf preservation and conservation services advances the preservation and revitalization of Galveston's historic neighborhoods, buildings and cultural resources. This department oversees the preservation resource center, architectural salvage warehouse, revolving fund and a variety of community programs including windstorm exemption and historic tax credit consulting.
Purpose of Galveston island tours which operates as a subsidiary for the exclusive and sole benefit of Galveston Historical Foundation, inc. to market, organize and conduct tours of Galveston island.
