Program areas at The Gardens of Southeastern North Carolina
The Gardens has grown and maintained an arboretum, which has been awarded the eleventh Proven Winners Signature Garden in the US. This garden is open to the public and has become a beautiful space for people to walk, relax, and be inspired. The Gardens has hosted numerous educational and inspiring events, welcoming over 5,000 visitors in the span of a year. The Gardens continues to build and expand with plans to maximize the experience of the visitors. In 2023, The Gardens kicked off our inaugural light show, The Southern Lights, which saw in total 3,979 people. Families of all ages came out during the Christmas season to explore The Gardens decorated in lights, eat smores and pizza, drink hot cocoa, watch movies, and make lasting memories. The Gardens hosted our second Fall Festival in 2023, which held approximately 500 people. This was a family-fun filled day with arts and craft vendors, food trucks, a wagon ride through the woods with a theatrical performance from Pender County Theatre Department incorporated in the ride, live music, and more! Grain to Oven is The Gardens' farm-to-table experience where people harvest wheat in The Gardens' grain field and then make their own pizza dough through threshing, winnowing, and grinding the grain into flour. The pizza doughs get topped with sauce and ingredients and then our pizza chefs put the dough into our woodfired ovens, cooking them until they're ready to be eaten! This is a fun, educational event. In 2023, 254 people attended a Grain to Oven event.
