Program areas at Gateway Medical Society
To promote health care and general welfare of minority and socio- economically challenged populations in southwestern Pennsylvania. Enhance the quality of health care services by addressing the ethnic and racial disparities in health care. Enhance wellness by providing health education to the community. Provide continuing education for health care workers. To facilitate communication, collaboration and networking among health care providers. Provide a forum for discussion of issues for successful academic, financial and clinical growth.
Youth mentorship program is to educate and mentor minority pre-adolescent males in the art and science of medicine. The hope is to inspire and guide the students as they matriculate through secondary education and beyond. Ultimately, the hope is for the students to choose to enter into the field of medicine and the allied health professions.
Symposium to educate the general community about strategies to decrease high mortality/morbidity levels and increase healthy lifestyles. This includes keynote lecture, plenary sessions and workshops given by Gateway member physicians and guest experts. The program also inclueds information tables sponsored by health institutions and nonprofit organizations in the region, as well as refreshments and door prizes.
