I. General information Geisinger Medical Center Muncy, (gmcm), a 501(c )(3) not-for-profit corporation owns and operates a 20 bed acute care hospital in Muncy, pa. gmcm began seeing patients january 10, 2022. Gmcm is making better health easier for lycoming county and the surrounding area. In addition to being a full-service hospital, the new facility brings care closer to home by centralizing services, lessening travel time for patients who went to larger Medical facilities for their care. The 120,000-square foot, three-story facility is a 100 million+ investment in Muncy and the surrounding communities and is part of the clinical joint venture formed by Geisinger and highmark health in 2019. Featuring an emergency room, clinical decision unit, acute care unit, surgical suites and primary and specialty care areas, Geisinger Medical Center Muncy is designed to meet the routine and acute care needs of those living in lycoming, sullivan, clinton and tioga counties. The new facility includes the latest innovations in patient-centered care and technology. The clinical decision unit is a unique care model new to the community. It provides hospital care but serves as a middle ground, allowing clinicians to work with and guide patients so they get the right care in the right place. That could mean admission to the hospital, providing resources so the patient can manage their condition and avoid a trip to the hospital, or arranging a visit to a primary care provider or other specialist. The hospital's 20 inpatient rooms are outfitted with digital white boards displaying real-time health information to better coordinate care. The white boards serve as a centralized information hub that can be connected across several devices and will be accessible to the patient, family and care team. Messaging capabilities streamline interactions while improving communication about the hospital stay and providing patients with personalized health information and educational content. For routine care, the facility includes a multispecialty clinic with adult and pediatric primary care, orthopaedics, cardiology, ophthalmology, pulmonary services and women's health services. Also available are imaging and lab services, Medical oncology services, chemotherapy and infusions, general surgery services. Adult and pediatric physical, occupational and speech therapy services are also provided. Ii. Major program services services offered by gmcm: adult and pediatric primary care dermatology pharmacy imaging inpatient unit lab services emergency room infusions medication therapy management physical, occupational and speech therapy pulmonology specialty clinics including: cardiology hematology and oncology gastroenterology orthopaedics eye care podiatry surgery women's health services telemedicine urology iii. Program service accomplishments uncompensated care gmcm recognizes that its mission is to serve all the members of the community with respect to the provision of healthcare services and healthcare education. Gmcm provides quality Medical healthcare regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identiy, handicap, age or ability to pay. In this regard, gmcm provides free care or subsidized care, to persons covered by governmental programs at or below cost, and provides various health activities and programs in support of the communities where gmcm practices. A. charity care the primary concern of gmcm is the delivery of health care to all the citizens in its Pennsylvania service area, regardless of their ability to pay. The unreimbursed cost of charity care represents the cost gmcm incurred by providing free or discounted services to those who could not afford to pay. For the year ended december 31, 2022, the cost of charity care was 589,874. B. medicare/medicaid recognizing its mission to the community, services are provided to the elderly (medicare) and the poor (medicaid). Gmcm provides care, below cost, to persons covered by these governmental programs. To the extent reimbursement is below the cost of providing healthcare, gmcm is furthering its mission to the entire community. The unreimbursed value of medicare and/or medicaid is equal to the cost of providing services less the amount of reimbursement received under the program. For the year ended december 31, 2022, the unreimbursed value of providing care to these patients was 18,449,007. C. other uncompensated patient services in addition, gmcm provides other patient services for which full payment is not received. The uncompensated cost of providing such patient services during the year ended december 31, 2022, was 211,290. Iii. Community health, education, and outreach gmcm strives to be a valuable resource for the community and its residents. Gmcm provides reduced-price services and free programs throughout the year that serve community health needs. These services and programs include community based clinical health screenings, community health education, and other unique services. A.health care support activities gmcm provided transportation for indigent patients at a cost of 48,148. B.health professions education gmcm provided 19,563 in supervision of nursing and pharmacy students completing rotations as part of their studies during the year ended december 31, 2022. C.other community benefit in 2022, gmcm participated in the Geisinger annual veteran's appreciation dinner at a cost of 5,329. D. volunteer services it is anticipated, the volunteers of Geisinger Medical Center Muncy will be an active and vital part of the activities of the hospital. The hours of volunteer services are an important contribution to the mission of gmcm. During its start-up year, volunteers from local communities contributed 13 hours toward the common purpose of servicing the healthcare of the community. The value of this contribution of 392 is given back to the community through lower costs in both patient services and "wellness" programs. Iv.
