We employ a range of informal education strategies to teach youth and adults the fundamental lab skills and scientific concepts they need to participate in the life sciences. Our programming prioritizes hands-on, collaborative, active learning based in biology education research best practices. We emphasize Interdisciplinary practice and the social and cultural context of scientific research and discovery. Genspsaces core education and engagement programs include: - A regular schedule of short courses and workshops on cutting edge topics from biomaterials and sustainable design to bioinformatics and gene editing with CRISPR - A membership program in which individuals, teams, and university scholars pursue novel research, art, or design projects in our open-access biology laboratory - A six month intensive synthetic biology internship for underserved youth and youth from underrepresented backgrounds in NYC- A rotating roster of free, public events for students, families, and adult learners
