Year (10/1/2019 - 9/30/2020) accomplishments: due to the covid-19 pandemic, much of the 2019-2020 fiscal year proved very challenging. During the first three months some progress was made on the project to restore the 1872 neosho colored school attended by George Washington Carver. The building was prepared for painting and a coat of primer was applied. The cba gift shop was closed in early spring due to pandemic shutdowns, and remained closed for the rest of the fiscal year. As a result, the majority of anticipated revenues dried up. The board instituted cost-saving measures in order to survive, and the cba employee was furloughed. All board meeting during 2020 were held via either teleconference or videoconference as safety precautions. A grant of 10,000 was received in july from the african american cultural heritage fund. At the close of the fiscal year, these funds were being maintained in anticipation of formulating plans to be implemented in 2021. As the 2019-2020 fiscal year drew to a close, cba continues to work closely with the George Washington Carver national monument to navigate the challenges of the pandemic in order to emerge in a viable position to carry on the mission of the association when conditions change.
